The quickest and easiest route I have found is traveling from Portsmouth to Caen the ferry takes around 6 hours but the drive from Caen only takes 2 and 1/2 hours.
The cheapest crossing I have found is the crossing from Portsmouth to Le Havre it can take between 5 to 8 hours and the drive from Le Havre is around 3 and 1/2 hours.

The 2 closest airports are Dinard and Rennes , with a drive time of around an hour.
